Great dogs are the result of breeding, some degree of luck and a master who actually understands how to develop the potential. I've raised and trained three German Shepherds and spent countless hours studying and training. It's a huge commitment to do it right, and if you can't make the commitment you're in for disappointment at best, trouble at the worst. There's no way I would even consider living with an untrained pit/shepherd/person in an apartment. I think you just have to make it non-negotiable and let the chips fall where they may.
